Although Mary worked in a creative field for many years, she didn’t start painting until retirement. Self-taught, she began using digital tools, Corel Painter and a Wacom tablet and pen to mimic traditional painting. Her works begin with a sketch on a blank computer screen or by playing with colours to see what emerges. Most of her earlier paintings do not use photographic references but come from her imagination. Her new Vancouver Island Series takes a different path, being digital paintings created from her own photographs taken while hiking and cycling on Vancouver island.
