  • Bonnie Schnitter has lived in Nanaimo B.C. for the past 23 years, raising her twin daughters with her husband, but she was born across the country in Goosebay Labrador. She is one of 5 girls raised in an air force family. This meant many moves while growing up, including travels in Europe, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. Her family moved to Sidney, on Vancouver Island in 1966 and Bonnie discovered the ocean and beaches and discovered a great love for ocean treasures, including starfish. “Starfish have always fascinated me and I love to paint them in their surroundings, whether on the rocks, under water or just alone on the beach. I also paint a variety of other subjects, such as ravens and crows, both serious and humorous. I love taking pictures of so many things, but especially ocean life, and then I paint different versions of the photos.”

Bonnie has shown over 30 new paintings each year for the past 6 years at the Raintree Gallery in Qualicum Beach along with 10 other artists. “I retired in March after working in schools and school district offices for 43 years.  Working 40 hrs a week made it difficult to find time to paint, but now that I have retired, I have all the time I need.” She has joined the Ladysmith Art Gallery and participates in monthly gallery shows as well as a couple of home art shows and craft shows whenever she can. Some of her smaller paintings are in the Ladysmith Art Gallery store. I hope you enjoy my art.
